Vintage Glassware

I’ve learned a lot about vintage glassware since I’ve been selling on Ebay. Did you know that quite a lot of the Vintage Glassware prized by Collectors these days was once promotional give-aways in detergent (laundry & dishwashing) boxes? This isn’t done much anymore, but once upon as time, you could get complete sets of juice glasses, water goblets, etc. in your boxes of laundry detergent! Also, you could purchase the very popular Imperial Candlewick at the 5 & dime store for about 25 cents each! That was in the 1940s. These beautiful pieces of glassware are now listed under “Elegant Glassware” on Ebay.
Imperial Glass Company was started around 1905 by an ex-riverboat captain & an experienced glassmaker. They were most famous for their line of Carnival Glass until 1936 when they developed the Candlewick line of glassware. It was an instant success. Affordable & beautiful elegant glassware that most folks at that time could afford. Due to the availability of this prized glassware even today, there are quite a few collectors of it. There are even societies specializing in Imperial Candlewick. Unfortunately, the company went out of business around 1985.
