Tara Jarmon- A Guide to Tara Jarmon & Fashion
Tara Jarmon, Canadian by birth, is the designer behind one of the hottest labels in French fashion. Her skirts, dresses, and other designs are sold throughout Europe and in the United States at Target. Her stated philosophy is that dressing should be an event, and it is reflected in her clothes by unique touches, like the use of silk and satin as fabrics and the addition of appliquéd bows to an ordinary tee.
Not surprisingly, her latest collection is said to be inspired by Paris itself. Sometimes the French sensibility behind Jarmon’s designs is subtle. At other times, as in a rose colored double-breasted blazer, the designs are so classically Parisian that wearing them is like taking a trip to the City of Lights itself. The look is decidedly feminine and those in her evening wear appear to romantically float about the room.
Among Jarmon’s favored techniques for adding pizzazz to her clothes is the use of embroidery, beaded details, and decorated hems (e.g., hems with pom pom trims). Currently, she also seems to favor items that tie off to one side. Choosing to design ballerina wrap sweaters and ruffle skirts conveys her sense that adding a little frou-frou to a woman’s outfit never hurts.
Soft pinks are an important part of her color palette, but so are bolder colors like deep plum and blazing orange, as well as the classic neutrals like khaki and ivory. The total effect of the different influences she brings to bear is chic in a timeless but modern way. In short, Tara Jarmon’s clothes attract attention.
