Reporting Scam Listings Safely

It seems like it’s up to us honest eBayers to fight all the scammers out there, but the scammers are getting slick! I believe that if every honest er reported just one fraud listing each week, we could put these people out of business. Just remember to keep yourself safe, buecause the scammers are coming up with some new tricks.
Don’t click on anything in the listing! I recently tried to use the “Report This Listing” link at the bottom of a fraud listing for a Kawasaki Ninja. I went through the report menus, and was then sent to what looked like the eBay log-in page. That isn’t supposed to happen! I have also seen email links hidden under the listing number, so if you try to click and drag across the number to copy it, your computer will try to send an email to the scammer. You definately don’t want these people to have your email address!
Don’t try to contact the scammer yourself through email. I know how tempting it is to let these people know what we think about them, but if they have your email address, you’ll be getting a lot of phishing emails.
Never click on a link in an email that claims to be from eBay or PayPal. If you do, you’ll be shown a sign-in page that looks legitimate, but if you sign in, all that happens is that the scammer now has access to your account! This becomes even more important to remember when you consider the hidden links in the listings.
If you know other people who use eBay, let them know about these scams, and how to avoid them. As always, knowledge and awareness are our best weapons against the scammers!
