Jewelry & Watches February 17th, 2008
Did you ever wonder how people make that fancy wire jewelry? Did you ever want to know how to do it yourself? Well then this is a guide that you will want to read! This is for Beginners.
Materials you will need:
-
Jeweler’s Pliers
-
Wire Cutters
-
Wire Jig (You can find these in the jewelry/beading section of many craft stores)
-
Wire (For beginners a 20 gauge crafting wire is a good choice, as you advance you can move onto better wire such as, sterling silver or gold filled.)
-
Safety Glasses
Getting started:
- First you need to decide what type of design or pattern you want to follow. The jigs usually come with some basic patterns that you can follow.
- Next you will lay out your pegs in the jig according to the pattern.
- Cut a good size piece of wire and use your jeweler’s pliers to make a loop in one end.
- Lay the loop over the first peg (starting point)
- Next follow the pattern and the arrows will show you which way to wind your wire
- When you get to the end, loop you wire around the last peg. Remove the design from the peg and cut off the excess wire. You will then have your finished product.
Here are some examples of what you can make with your wire creations. Once you get the hang of it you can design your own patterns. Have fun and remember the possibilities are endless!
