how NOT to buy land over the internet…

I have been looking for a large chunk of land in the middle of nowhere for quite some time. I have looked in a lot of places to find my piece of heaven, and I’ve watched the land sales on during my search. Unfortunately there are some people out there selling very small pieces of land in very remote areas…i.e. 1/4 acre in an old pasture in the mountains of arizona, with no power/water/etc. selling for $1500 or more. You may think that this is a great deal, but then you go look at the land and find out that there is no real access to your poorly marked plot of land. You may get think you got lucky and have a nice view, or some trees, but in reality you were probably suckered by someone who bought a large (20-50 acres) plot of land for not much and is paying for it by selling off tiny pieces of it…that’s if you were lucky. If not, you might get a piece of a hill that is too steep to build on, or so rocky you can barely walk on it. Basically, remember buyer beware, and don’t bid on land unless you can check it out in person first. Use caution with land purchases, and you will always be happy in the end.
