Handmade Quilts
electronics August 9th, 2008
I want to express my concern regarding how some sellers are misleading buyers by using the term ‘Handmade’ in the description of the quilts they are selling. A truly handmade quilt is when the pieces are hand cut, hand stitched together (preferably 6-8 stitches per inch), to make a delightfully patterned but very useful work of art and are durable enough to be passed down for generations. In the context these sellers are using the term ‘handmade’, everything in my house and everything I wear could be called handmade since someone’s hands have touched it somewhere along the line. Most of the quilts advertised as handmade are mass produced by machine and have a bit of hand quilting holding them together. I have bought several ‘Handmade’ quilts clearly labeled made in another country and they have very loose stitching that pulls out easily and has to be repaired. Ask questions before buying, an honest seller will answer honestly! Also watch for multiple listings of the EXACT quilts. These are clearly mass produced.
