Have more fun with your golf partners!
Introducing a little side game during a round of golf increases your golf game, provides great entertainment with the added benefit of potentially picking up a couple of bucks from your buddies. This guide will explain one game called Nines, which is a fun game to play with a threesome. Future guides will explain other games.
Taken from the book “Your Pocket Guide to Great Games for Golf” by Tom Newton, Nines allows “threesomes compete by earning points on each hole based on relative scores.”
“There are 9 points available on each hole and the group decised the dollar value for each point prior to starting their round. Points are distributed after the conclusion of each hole according to each player’s relative score as follows:
Lowest score - 5 points
2nd lowest score - 3 points
Highest score - 1 point
Two tie for low score - 4 points
Two tie for second lowest score - 2 points
All three ties - 3 points
This game can be easily adapted to foursomes by simply changing the total points available from 9 to 12 and calling it Twelves. For the format:
Lowest score - 6 points
2nd lowest score - 4 points
3rd lowest score - 2 points
Highest score - 0 points
It’s easy to figure out the math from there for all the possible outcomes in a foursome.”
