What NOT to do when selling on eBay…

  • Don’t sell an item for $1.00 and charge $30.00 for shipping.
  • Don’t misrepent the value of an item - be conservative.
  • Don’t ignore customer emails.
  • Don’t hide the most important descriptive information about an item in small print.
  • Don’t misuse photoshop to enhance the quality of any item.
  • Don’t advertise an item as “new” when it’s “used”.
  • Don’t sell items you don’t have in stock and ready to ship.
  • Don’t sell knock-offs (it hurts everyone).

Is it not time to get back to basics? For those who have been here for a long time, they know better. For those just beginning on eBay, live by the rules and please, read the Help section and Tutorials to learn all the do’s and dont’s.

What you should to do when Buying on eBay…

  • Read descriptions. Don’t scan through a description - just paying attention to the big bold “hey, pay attention to my listing verbage”.
  • Have realistic expectations.
  • Have a question? Send the Seller an email through eBay.
  • Don’t buy knock-off’s, as you could be sorely disappointed and hurts those who sell the “real thing”.
  • Review the Feedback of sellers before buying.
  • Once an item is shipped to you - the seller is at the mercy of the post office. Keep this in mind if your package is NOT received as expected.

Feedback Considerations…

  • Do Buyer’s and Seller’s look to receive Negative or Neutral Feedback? No one wants Negative or Neutral Feedback and as such, communication is the key to fixing any problem that arise. Pick up the telephone or send an email before leaving Neutral or Negattive Feedback.
  • Don’t ever use Feedback as an extortion tool or bargaining chip.
  • Leave Feedback - Don’t make new people (just getting started on eBay), wait for their Feedback, as they earned it - fair and square.

Late Payments or Non Paid Items…

  • Never assume that a seller has NOT had his account hijacked and is just handing you an excuse for an item not paid or paid late.
  • Never assume that a seller has NOT had his PayPal account hijacked.
  • Never assume that ANY circumstance or excuse for late payment (or no payment at all) surrounding a sale is a falsehood. Think about how many eBay users there are in the world and how many people pass on - everyday of the week, how many go to hopsital, have car accidents, lost their job or just have problems out of their control.

No doubt, I know this information is everywhere to be found but, sometimes it just time to get back to basics. Thanks for reading.
