fake les Pauls from China
collectibles toys March 1st, 2008
I bought one of these guitars, thinking it was a factory second. This was back in May of 2006 and I thought I was purchasing a Epiphone Black les Paul. After making the bid and winning I didn’t really want to follow through as I was concerned that I would get ripped off. I did follow through with the deal and I knew it might be fake but within 2 weeks, no duty charges, I received a beautiful playing guitar. It was a Gibson(not real) but a great guitar. A nice wide neck and intonation almost bang on, it plays so nice. Its heavy and if it is not solid wood, there must be lead in it to weigh it down. This is my favorite guitar above my Epiphone les paul and my Fender Strat.
So a few months later I bought another fake Les Paul. It is an ok Guitar, and much lighter than the other fake. The intonation was way off, the action too high and has become a slide guitar for my collection. If you could walk into a store somewhere and play these fakes and offer what you think its worth to you, hey that would be cool.
My son is now playing the second Les Paul and for him, its cool even though he knows its a fake, it looks real. With a little bit of work it plays better but buyer beware, it sounds like some of these guitars are crap.
I did not feel like I was ripped off in any way. I knew what I was buying, there was good comunication from the sellers and shipping was really fast. If I could be sure I could get another one like the first one I would spend the money and do it. For me as a musician(not trying to sell to somebody to make a profit) these guitars are great to have a around.
Buyer beware, they are fake, some good some bad, I have one of each.
