Engagement Rings, Diamond Alternatives… It is all about Color!
Engagement rings are getting more colorful these days. The new look of color, be it color diamonds or precious gems are becoming the new look of todays forward thinking woman. If you think engagement rings must always have diamonds, think again. There are many alternatives available.
Price got you down? No, CZ’s are NOT an option. Just as you’ve found the “real thing” in your bride-to-be, go for the real thing in the ring you select. Try these ideas instead. Think symbolizing something rare, precious and very beautiful. This is the the only person you will ask to be part of your life. You want your ring to be a reflection of your hopes to share a wonderful lifetime together. If you are concerned about not giving a diamond then perhaps you could take a look at the royal lineage for direction. The british royals all received colored gemstone engagement rings. The entire line starting with the Queen Mother received sapphire and diamonds engagement rings. Prince Andrew chose a Ruby and diamond for Fergi.
Color relationships
Red - stones symbolize the heart, and thus, passion and a zest for life. With red, one instantly thinks of ruby, but the same symbolism can be conveyed very inexpensively with red garnet, or with a little larger budget, red tourmaline, or for a little more, red spinel. All natural gemstones, and all beautiful. Compare Prices
Green - stones symbolize faithfulness and continuity, where choices include not only emerald, but green garnet or green tourmaline.
Blue - stones symbolize spirituality and purity, in addition to sapphire we have blue spinel, iolite, and blue tourmaline. You might also combine whatever stone you choose with a small diamond on each side, thereby completing the ring with the symbolism of diamond, which, because of its unrivaled hardness was believed to be indestructible.
Pearl - has been associated with love and with the wedding itself longer than all others, the pearl; one might seek a natural pearl in an antique or heirloom piece.
Birthstone - a long term tradition of something connected to the couple in a very personal way, perhaps also combined with diamonds and their symbolism.
So remember whatever the budget, whatever the message, there are many beautiful, rare, symbolic and precious choices.
