DO YOU REALLY WANT ‘FIRST STRIKE’ ON YOUR ‘FIRST SPOUSE’ GOLD COINS?

Think about it. Lets say your going to build a complete set of the $10 gold half oz. coins that the US Mint is going to produce over the next ten or so years. You are going to collect 69 or 70 grade coins from NGC, IGC, or PCGS. NGC has already dropped ‘First Strike’ from their nomenclature and the jury is still out as to weather PCGS & IGC are going to continue designating their early release coins as ‘First Strike’.

Now, here is the problem. If you are trying to build an IGC or PCGS ‘First Strike’ collection, what is your collection of grade 69 or 70 slabed coins going to look like if half way through the ‘First Spouse’ program PCGS & IGC stop designating coins as ‘First Strike’? Your slabs will be part ‘First Strike’ and the rest NOT.

I am a fan and a buyer of ‘First Strike’ gold coins. I will continue to favor ‘First Strike’ over non-first strike coins but at the end of the ‘First Spouse’ program I would like all my slabs to look alike at that 69 or 70 grade.
