Denim or Sky?

Garden guide February 18th, 2008

Pfaltzgraff has two retired patterns called Denim and Sky that are very similar but are different enough that they don’t exactly match. The Denim pattern is a deeper, more vibrant shade of blue than Sky. Also, the bottoms of the plates and the outside of the bowls are solid blue in the Denim pattern and white in the Sky pattern. The whites of the two patterns are also different. The white of the Sky pattern is a touch more gray than the Denim pattern. Denim coffee mugs did not have saucers whereas the Sky cups do. Also the Sky pattern seems to have more accessory pieces like the butter dish and pedestal mug. The pieces are similar enough that they can be mixed and matched. But be aware that the blues and whites are NOT the same. You will definately see a difference when they are side by side.

The Sky pattern is the older of the two. It was introduced in 1987. The Denim pattern was introduced in 2004. (Thanks to the Q&A on an auction for this information.) So if you have some pieces that date back prior to 2004, then they are probably Sky.

The pictures below show both the Denim and Sky patterns. In both pictures the Denim piece is on the left and the Sky piece is on the right. If you are only buying a piece or two to complete a set, be very sure to get the right pattern. Ask for additional pictures and/or descriptions so you won’t end up with an odd piece. I hope this brief guide will assist you in choosing the right pattern for your set.

The Denim piece is on the left and the Sky piece is on the right.
