Custom Wheels

There are many things to consider when you decide to purchase a set of custom wheels for your prized possesion. The first thing to remember is price isnt everything you have to consider the manufacturer of the wheel. For instance a year from now you clip a curb are you going to be able to replace just one wheel, and the likely answer to this question is no. With years of Les Shwab experiance this is the most common fault found with a set of custom wheels they get discontinued. There are companys that offer there full line (really mean full here as in every wheel that they have ever produced) of custom wheels to all customers. Center Line Wheels (trademark) is one of these companys as is Boyd Coddington (trademark), you will pay a premium for your replacment but it will cost you alot less than replacing a full set of wheels. Another thing to consider is the manufacturers process of making the wheel. There are multiple ways to construct a wheel such as muli-piece and forged. A forged wheel is such that the metal is pored into a casting, this makes a inexpensive wheel but still of reasonable quality. A multi piece wheel is manufactered on a machine such as a water jet, this makes a stronger and liter wheel than forging.
Finishes are very important there are many finishes with varying levels of maintance required. A painted finish is about the easiest to take care of just wash and rinse but chipping is comin and matching a wheel manufacturers color is pretty hard.
Machined clear coat is also wash and go but eventualy the clear coat will spot from brake dust.
Polished aluminum is a very good finish but requiers the most care of all, the wheels need to be polished at least twice a month inorder for the chore to be of some ease. If left unattended to you might want to pay a neighborhood kid to do it.
Chrome the most abundant of them all. About the only thing to watch out for is bubbling of the chrome. This manly happens with off brand wheels and is usally not covered under warente. If you chose a well known manufacturer you should have absolutly no trouble.
