What to think about when purchasing … ?
- Is the carving a reproduction or an original?
- It may be original, but is it unique?
- Has the Statue already been created, or will you have to wait for a “similar” one.
- Was it created by a human or a machine?
- What is the quality of the wood?
- What types of paint or wood treatments can be applied?
- Verify the size and weight of the object.
- How will the item ship? ( with art this is important )
Note: “Checks“. This is a term used by carvers to describe a crack in the wood. Wood, by nature, will tend to develop “checks” with time. This is ok and natural as long as the Sculpture was carved in accordance with the proper grain flow.
The more a Wooden Statue Weathers with time the more valuable it can become.
Basic Care:
- Keep your new carving out of direct sunlight for several months. This will help to slow the drying process of the wood. Wood that is dried slowly or cured will last longer.
- Do not place your Sculpture near a heater or fireplace.
) - Inside: Place a rubber matt or something under your Sculpture, as moisture will condense through the bottom. This is not good for carpet or floors.
- Outside: Place something between the wood base and the the soil. ( another piece of wood or a concrete square ) This will prevent moisture from absorbing directly back into the wood base.
* Communication is the key. Ask your Seller Questions, get a feel for who they are and how they respond.
