How to choose the Perfect Diamond

Buying a diamond is one of the most important decisions a couple will make. Choosing the size and shape along with the style of the mounting are important personal choices. Understanding the characteristics that influence the brilliance, beauty and value of diamonds can make your buying experience more enjoyable and more fulfilling.

Diamond are like people-no two are ever exactly alike. Very subtle differences in the internal and external characteristics of each stone, along with subtle variations in color and cutting proportions, have a measurable effect on the value of two diamonds which may appear to be similar.

Start with a good jeweler, one who’ll take the time to help you through the 4 Cs-cut, color, clarity and carat weight. Understanding the language of diamonds will put you more at case in making your selection.

THE 5 Cs

Cut

Cut actually means two things: the shape of the diamond (round, marquise, pear, oval, heart, emerald, princess, radiant, etc) and the proportions of the stone. When a stone is cut to good proportions, light is reflected from facet to facet, then dispersed through the sparkle, brilliance and fire of the stone.

Color

Most diamonds look colorless. But there are many subtle shade differences that range from colorless to yellow/brown. Diamonds are graded on a color scale that ranges from D (colorless) to Z (yellow/brown). Diamonds with no hint of color at all are extremely rare and are therefore, most valuable. Most gem quality stones appear to be colorless, but they usually have at least a hint of color.

Clarity

Almost all diamonds contain a combination of internal and external characteristics called inclusions and blemishes. Normally, they are too minute to be visible without powerful magnification. Some are even so small they require great skill and time to locate. The number, type, location, visibility and color of inclusions determine a diamond’s clarity and may influence its value.

Carat Weight

Like all precious stones, the weight or size of a diamond is measured in carats. A one carat stone is equal in weight to one hundred smaller units called “points? Therefore, a fifty_point diamond, for example, is the same as a half carat. Carat weight is the most obvious factor in determining a diamond’s value, depending on the quality of its cut, clarity and color.

Paypal resolving non receipt itmes

I bought 3 watches from a seller in Germany and they were good and fast in mailing the 1st and 3rd auction won, but the 2nd auction was never sent. I waited the appropriate time then filed a non_reciept compliant. This was back in June 2007, and then had to file a complaint on Paypal.

1. All I ever wanted was the watch.
2. The seller had a good reputation and good feedbacks
3. I noticed that in the last few weeks they had been getting some, natural and negative feedbacks so I was a bit worried.

After waiting for over the 45 days still no Watch, so I upped the complaint, and now wanted a refund.
The process went on, normal, the seller keep stating I had received the watch. We communicated though the process, but still nothing was accomplished. Time went no Watch or Refund. Paypal then ask me for more information and the seller. I provided the international tracking numbers for Paypal. I also communicated a bit with the seller again. The seller at this time said I had never won this auction, but then I proved to them I had actually won it. As time passed I communicated with the seller who was experience enough to know that they couldn’t “Fambusal” me, I had keep their mailing packages and the tracking numbers. They keep saying that the 3rd mailed watch was this one, but I had the proof it wasn’t.

Well over 90 days from the close of the auction and payment, Paypal has agreed with me and a refund was issued. This was only for about $120.00 but still it was money well earned.

The moral to this is keep communicating with the seller if they will and keep Paypal informed of that communication. Also keep you mailing information, that is very important in the process of investingating non-reciept of items.

I have found today with us little guys that Paypal (Ebay) is fair and the big time sellers can’t get away with either forgetting to mail your product or forgetting you have won a auction.

Use the process to get your non receipt item, it does work, it takes a while but this isn’t the 1st time I’ve had to use the process.

  • Thanks Paypal and Ebay.

  • If you thought this to be helpful please vote yes.

Avoid buying diamonds from losers. Losers are liars and vice versa. I bought from Avrohom Feld. He quit selling. But he promised an SI1-SI2 ring that turned out to be an I3. Horribly ugly diamond. He never refunded my money. He seems to no longer deal on eBay, but I’m just really sorry that I never got the chance to leave him negative feedback. As a matter of fact, the way eBay is set up, he is probably operating under a completely different username now and there’s no way to find that out. So please just be careful, use a credit card to make any/all purchases, have the stone inspected for legitamacy, even if it comes with an “appraisal”. My two bits, thank you and good luck.

False Advertising

DealHaven (whoever they are) has been selling model V715 Swiss Army watches for some time now. They obviously have them by the truckload. When you read their specs on their website they specifically refer to a limited 3-year manufacturer’s warranty. Fair enough. I called Swiss Army HQ and they will not honor any warranty on a watch sold through Ebay. So who’s going to honor the 3-year warranty? I asked DealHaven because my watch seems to be malfuntioning. As it turns out, they have no intention of honoring this warranty in any way, shape or form.

So, if you’re ever tempted to buy one of those Swiss Army watches from DealHaven, you’re on your own if anything goes wrong. And that ain’t right.
