The CG4 irons are 6-10 yards longer than the Callaways

Iron Individual Club June 27th, 2008

I spent time researching golf irons and have used Callaway X-14 and Adams Idea OS1 golf clubs as well as the Cleveland CG4 irons. The CG4 irons are 6-10 yards longer than the Callaways and 10-15 yards longer than the Adams. I bought these clubs at for 50% of retail and took them out for my first round. Cleveland has done a great job of creating irons that are very forgiving and long even on off center hits. They are very easy to control and have exceptionally good feel for a “Game Improvement” iron. Thumbs up to Cleveland easily the best set of irons that I have ever owned.

Cobra 3100 I/H Stiff 3-PW +1inch

Iron Individual Club June 23rd, 2008

Excellent game improvement irons! I played older Cobra TRD blades with moderate success. Second and third time out shot 42-39 and 40-44 on two very tough courses (slopes 132 and 141). Miss hits go 90% and they are tough to chunk. They don’t permit a ton of spin on short iron approaches but they play 15% longer. 8-iron used to top at 150 but new 8-iron is 155-158 and 5-iron was 185 but new 5-iron 195-200. 3-iron and 4-iron tough off the turf but easy to hit off the tee for controlled long irons or tight tee shots.

I purchased the Cobra 3100I/H Irons on ebay because I wanted to try the clubs with graphite shafts. I was delighted with the entire process of purchasing on ebay! The clubs are exactly what I wanted and the graphite shafts give me a few more yards and less dispersion. The low center of gravity of the Cobra Irons get the ball up and away very quickly with few off-center hits. Did I mention the price was excellent and $100 less than my golf pro could offer for the same clubs!

Hard to Find New and Regular

Iron Individual Club May 31st, 2008

Remember when the Beatles stopped making music together? For years, it was great fun and then suddenly it stopped. Having a set of MP-33s by Mizuno is like that. Sure, John and Paul and George and sometimes Ringo made some good music after the break-up, but it wasn’t the same.

First of all, the MP-33s has a thin line on top at address. Some, like the Callaways, have a thick line on top and all that junk in the back. I love the way a thin club sets up to a ball at address.

Second, the feel of the MP-33 is effortless. Struck on the sweet spot, it goes where you want it go, and does what you want it to do. I enjoy the feedback because right away I know when I have hit it pure and when I have hit the ball off-center.

Third, the MP-33 helped me become a better player. I went from a 14-handicap to a 9-handicap quickly after ditching my “game-improvement” clubs for a barely-used set of MP-33s. I advise anyone who is struggling to break through into single digits with game-improvement clubs to experiment with a set of blades. And get them bent to fit your swing.

Unfortunately, I hate the fact that I can’t get a new set anywhere. Sure, the MP Anniversary Edition is supposed to be the same club, but I don’t have the thousand bucks it takes to purchase. Even rarer is the used set that has regular flex on the shaft. I just picked up a used set for about $200, but the short irons are about as worn as the set I’m using now.

So I keep flipping through eBay every now and then, the same way I flip through old record stores looking for that clean copy of Abbey Road, to see who might be selling a good used set of 33s.

Just what I was looking for

Iron Individual Club May 22nd, 2008

I needed this club to match my existing Titleist driver. I shopped for several weeks and bid on several clubs. I primarily wanted a club in used but excellent condition. The photos of this club were very clear and provided confidence in the quality of the product. I was very pleased with the purchase. Quick deliver was just a plus.

A step in the right direction

Iron Individual Club, Sporting Goods May 22nd, 2008

A step in the right direction for Acushnet. Steering away from the dated designes of the 900 series. These clubs offer an new technology found in the forging process, that allows them to utilize a thinner face and bolster the back of the head with an attrative dampening chip. The redistributed weight is now used where it can do the most good. The average player now has a modern club with feature found in more expensive modles. This is a well designed club. Comfortable to swing, with predictable results.
