CLEVELAND CG4 - Perimiter weighted

It pains me to see how many people buy from a seller in China and are stunned when they get a “knock-off” instead of the “real” thing. Then the poor schlub comes to the review area and REVIEWS THE TRANSACTION and NOT THE CLUBS. Now, should someone be interested in a set of Cleveland Irons, they’ll glance at the ratings bar and think “wow … that’s a pretty low rating, they must not be so good, I think I’ll look for another brand!”
Please please please people!!! Complain all you want but DO NOT rate the clubs POOR because you endured a bad experience in the purchasing process. You’re doing a disservice to our friends at Cleveland Golf! They had nothing to do with the stinker who is trying to pawn off a cold war era Soviet Tank that was melted down and beaten into a set of poor quality golf clubs. However, I have no doubt you’re angry, as any of us would be. We wish you all the luck in the world in resolving your dispute.
Now on to the REAL reason we’re here …
CLEVELAND CG4 - Perimiter weighted, special carbonized metallic face especially designed to increase MOI!!! Alert the scientists! I don’t know much about the engineering here, but I do know this… you cannot find a better set of clubs for the price. They have a thinner sole and top line than several direct competiors. This is not to say that it’s as thin as a blade, but for a game improvement iron it’s on the “slender” side. I also believe that you should add a Cleveland 50*-54*-58*, CG10, CG11 or CG12 to finish the set (or for something different, the Taylor Made TP series is NICE). We hackers think we should add another wood or hybrid to our bag when the reality is we need more scoring control around the greens. I added those wedges to my bag last year, took out my 3 wood and 4 iron and dropped my handicap from 14 to 9. And finally, here’s something to think about … a couple of years back I bought a set of Callaway X-18’s when they first came out and was pleased with them. Last summer I, for some unknown reason, made an impulse buy on a set of CG4’s that were 50% off. I took them out to the course and hit them. Then went back to my Callaways. Then went back to the CG4’s and back to the Callaways and so on and so on. Let us simply say that I now have a set of Callaway x-18’s sitting in the golf storage rack in my garage. I hereby testify that I find the Clevelands easy to work (especially draw), and they make it quite easy to get the ball “up”. They may not fly as far as my Callaways, but it is nothing more than a couple of yards per club. However, the feel and response are top notch in the CG4’s and if you’re an everyday golfer who loves to feel the ball on the club face, you might like to give these a try. The only change I would make would be to “mill” the face of the pitching wedge for a little extra bite. Also, it would be nice if they offered a set of CG4’s in their “black pearl” color. BOTTOM LINE: IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A DAMN FINE SET OF INEXPENSIVE IRONS THAT CAN DO IT ALL … PUT CLEVELAND CG4’s ON YOUR LIST. You’ll be glad you did!
