690.CB Forged, Irons

I had been playing ping for years until i tried my buddy’s Titleist 690MB’s. I’m not as good as he is so he suggested that i take a trip up to Golftown and try out the Titleist 690CB.

These clubs are forged, with a progressive cavity back and stiff flexed. That’s it!

They’re setup perfectly for me with the std bounce and lie angle. New grips and the faces were immaculate.

At 300 bucks on ebay, i saved about 800 off the golftown price and i couldn’t be happier. I’m listing all of the other sets that i have on Ebay and couldn’t be happier with these.

These clubs give a low handicapper (7-10) a real alternative to being perfect all the time. They are forged, very playable and they setup like blades. I can’t believe that anyone buys blades anymore when these are available.

Now, the new version is the Titleist 695 CB’s and they’re uglier in my opinion. I think that those ones have larger cavities and they’re not as ‘classic’ looking (to me anyway).

I didn’t think I could hit a forged club…WRONG!

I’m a 19 handicap and always bought the conventional wisdom that I wouldn’t be able to handle a forged club.

I bought a used set of these just to have some clubs around for my son to use….then I tried them one day and they are fantastic. The ball goes much farther….easily 10 yards more….maybe 15. If I don’t hit the ball just right all that happens is I lose a few yards.

Although at set up the loft of the clubs looks like the ball will fly low, I find with these clubs the ball has a high trajectory for nice soft landings.

Nike Slingshots I fell in love with the Cleveland CG4s

After demoing the Callaway X18s, Taylormade OSS, and Nike Slingshots I fell in love with the Cleveland CG4s. I likes the x18s second best but appreciated the feel of the CG4s. The Taylormades had a terrible grip IMO and if I bought those I would have to regrip immediately since they felt very very slick. The Nike Slingshots just made a strange whistling sound when you sung them, I am guessing the partially closed cavity back is the culprit and I found myself paying more attention to the whistle rather than my swing tempo. The CG4s just have a buttery smooth feel and are very forgiving, their CMM technology is for real. Also I liked that the CG4s for their size, they are not as oversized as some of the others yet offer as much forgiveness IMO. If you want some game-improvement irons these are a very very nice set of irons.

If youve owned the VAS or VAS+ irons (as I did)

then these will be very familiar to you. Although they’ve done away with the offset, they are very similar in feel and and build. I appreciate it when a company improves something that was very good instead of doing away with a product line altogether. Cleveland golf makes some of the best equipment in the biz and makes it affordable for all levels of players. If your thinking of buying I also recommend the CG11 wedges. You wont be disappointed. Remember, above all, have fun out there.

With CG4s listing at $600+ this is not logical

If you are buying from ebay, ask specific questions. For example, do clubs have serial numbers/warranty and are they guaranteed authentic? Get this in email and keep it. My credit card co dropped the charges because I could prove the items sent to me were fake and that the seller was a crook based off all the email. Also make sure the seller is a power seller and that they have the $1000 buyer protection. It doesn’t do any good that a seller has a return policy if they are selling fakes because they likely won’t honor it. Most legit sellers are quick to reply to email and will give phone numbers etc. if you have questions. Counterfeiter’s dodge you on often block out previously sold item information as “private” on their feedback score report. Stay away from 1 or 2 day autions as these are usually crooks trying to dump their junk quick. Bottom line, don’t bid until you are confident in the seller.

Last suggestion for what it’s worth…if a deal seems to good to be true, go with your instinct because it probably is. I see iron sets like the one I got dupped on starting out at $100 a set. With CG4s listing at $600+ this is not logical, but sooo tempting! However, don’t think a high price is a guarantee that the clubs you are bidding on are real either. My friend spent $600 on TM CGBs and they were fakes as well. Good luck.

I recently purchased the Cleveland CG4 irons

and was impressed with the quality of the irons. They were as described , almost new, and I love hitting them. I previously had Calloway Big Bertha Irons but these Cleveland’s are smother, lighter and I seem to get a little more distance.
