Combined postage aspects. Save on mail tips!

antiques prices February 26th, 2008

It is the fact known by sellers and not always understood by bidders, that eBay often does not give the automated save on postage with combined multiple wins mailing. So it is fine tip for buyers before paying for single item (even if You received the bill for won item!) to ask seller to wait for more of potential winning bids within soonest hours or days. After the winning of a few items make the request for total (automated payment with PayPal will just count all separate postages together) and most sellers (not all) will gladly combine the postage.
I also advice sellers to combine postage when it is possible, and trust me,this honesty will be valued by thankful buyers within many and many returns to Your items and many new purchases in future. Sellers might also be willing to mention along with the billing that buyer can wait for more items to end to save on mailing costs.

Reed Diffusers

antiques prices February 26th, 2008

These have skyrocketed to stardom on the scent scene in the last year.
However, people are still finding out about just what these little “scentsations” offer.
Here are some things to keep in mind.
1.Try and purchase from a place where you can sample the scent before you get it home.
Something might look lovely in the package but, smell like the devils sewer once you put it up. For example Pier 1 imports has a tester bar with all of the reed diffusers open, so you can get a free smell of all scents that interest you.
2.There are two main types of diffusers… those with alcohol and without. Without, tends to be more concentrated and will last longer, sometimes up to twice as long. It also can include more decorative reeds because you will not have to flip them to keep the scent dispersed. The only downside to without alcohol is the price.. twice as long can sometimes mean twice as much.
3. Most important! Keep away from walls, books etc! I can not warn you enough. Place these where they are safe. Once they spill that can take the paint off better than any lacquer thinner.
Don’t be limited in your ideas for creative display of a reed diffuser. There are so many things to try… Place in a clear glass candle dish and surround with decorative pebbles or glass beads that complement the shade you have picked. You could try putting it into a hurricane and using the same pebble or stone idea… even surrounded by a type of potpourri Also… small pedestal candle holders are great
Remember the possibilities are endless! If you have more decorating ideas please email me with suggestions.
My personal favorite scents are from Pier 1 and they are “Citrus Cilantro”, “Tuscan Herb” and “Ginger Peach”

Antique Reporductions Have Value

antiques prices February 26th, 2008

In the market of antiques and collectibles you will find a ton of negative remarks when it comes to reproductions, but for me they have a purpose especially when it comes to decorating.

One of the newest trends in home decor is using primitives mixed with shabby or chic with a mix of country style - I love a home decorated with a primitive decor.

The cool thing that I love about this form of decorating is however you define it - You add your personal style and blend in your decor with antiques and collectibles - Rules are however you set them and nothing is set in stone. You simply take some rustic pieces “Old or New” and let your artistic self run with it.

When it comes to antiques & collectibles, I recommend that you leave them in the condition that you found them in because in many cases if you change them in any way they will loose value! If you want to paint or varnish or even change them in any way, you should purchase a reproduction of the item and add your own tastes and flair!

You can take old furniture and mix in all the high - tech decor as long as you have a unifying theme in your decor.

The concept behind mixing old with new for a primitive look is to simply choose a theme.

You will find that a primitive decor will provide a comfortable and warm ambiance to your home such as adding old boxes and baskets in a kitchen or living room will be a positive accent. Adding pottery to a hall or bathroom will make it feel like warmth and simplicity to all that enter.

Remodeling with primitives doesn’t have to expensive when you purchase reproductions and best of all you do not have to worry about damage to a prized treasure or expensive antique.

You can visit my Listings to see what I have to offer - If it looks like a reproduction I will tell you!

Creating a COASTAL STYLE home with colour

antiques prices February 26th, 2008

Love the idea of a seaside cottage, beach house, ocean front home - the relaxed lifestyle, people from the city dropping down for the weekend… well you can create that same feeling, through design, miles away from the sea.

Colour - how simple - sunshine, beach, clouds, water - they are your clues for paint and fabric colours. Try not to do the old standby Red, White and Blue - it’s too restricting when you want to bring other items into the room just because you like them. And it’s an old fashioned way to convey the Seaside. Todays take on those colours is turquoise, tan, white, pale yellow, and bleached coral. You can add bits of Navy Blue for accent, or a hit of red if you must - Red works best if it is a vintage piece, slightly faded.

Wood - floors, bead board, paneling, wainscot, antique furniture, bookcases, kitchen cabinetry - all adds a coastal feeling and a more relaxed feel - try to avoid items which must have coasters - takes away from the relaxed feeling you’re trying to create.

Coastal Icon Collections:

  • Seashells - in a bowl
  • Beach Glass - in a jar on the windowsill, machine tumbled or ocean tumbled if you’re a purist
  • Glass Floats - lined up on the mantle piece, or mixed in with the seashells
  • Wooden Buoys - keeping the door open, or hung on a hook by the back door - for colour
  • Model Sailboats - on a wall shelf, or pond yachts in their stands on the top of the bookcase
  • Striped fabrics - cushions, valences, napkins
  • Rope Knots - as curtain tiebacks, door stops
  • Candles in Hurricane Glass - nestled in a base of sand and seashells or beach glass
  • Nautical tableware and linens - on a tray on the ottoman, or tucked in with the books

Keep it relaxed, add some items for fun and laughter, add your seashell collections, or bowls of beach rocks, old glass bottles in that wonderful green or aquamarine colour, use a wooden fishing buoy as a door stop… it really doesn’t take much to create the feeling - remember no theme parks :)

This guide is intended to provide a guideline for purchasing collectible balinese woodcarving on eBay.

Bali is part of the Indonesian archipelago nested between Australia and the mainland Asia. Bali has been the center of the art from many centuries, discovered by the West in early 1900. Since then, it has been the destination of many tourists and the haven of many avantgarde artists and the like.

Woodcarving is part of daily life of the balinese. Balinese wood carvers adore their temples with intricate ornamentations. Wood carvings are also used in every home temples to represent the Gods and Goddesses, as well as deceased ancestors.

Woodcarvings from the transition period to modernity, from late 1920s to 1942 are well sought after. This period is characterized by less ornate woodcarvings that recently suggested
