Buying a currency counter
collectibles toys March 1st, 2008
There are several things you should consider when purchasing a money counter:
1. Do you need it to do counterfeit detection. If counterfeiting is a
problem then you have two choices, machines with ultraviolet
counterfeit detection and machines with both ultaviolet and magnetic
detection. Most fakes are detected using ultraviolet but for even
greater protection magnetic detection also checks the magnetic
qualitied in the bills.
2. Horizontal or vertical feed? The more expensive machines are loaded
with the bills laying flat (horizontal feed) . This allows for stacking
more bills at once in the input hopper. If you are counting less than
100 bills at a time then this is not really needed. Vertical machines
are less expensive and you stand the bills on edge in the input hopper.
3. What is the waranty ? Look for machines with a one year or longer warranty.
4. How do you get service when you need it ? Can you easily reach the company selling the machine.
5. Is it a discriminating counter, which means can it actually read the
denomination of the bills or is it strictly a counter and requires that
you separate the denominations prior to counting (non-discriminating)
6. Can it count and detect the newer designed bills as well as the old bills.
