I just wanted to get the word out to other parents and grandparents who may be looking at carseats or booster seats for young children. A report was done by a local news affiliate about carseats and booster seats and the legal issues surrounding them. This was a very enlightning story for me because I was always led to believe that a child seats useful life was 5 years from date of purchase. The reporter and the law enforcement official that she spoke with, stated that belief is incorrect. Carseats and Booster seats are only good for 5 years from date of manufacture in most states, which is shown on the box (when purchased new) and shown on the label attached to the seat itself. Law enforcement can and will ticket you if found that you are in violation of this. They stated that major chains and resellers are hoping that everyone is nieve, will not know this and purchase items that may have already expired or are already two or more years past this date which means you have a shorter time to use the seat than what you thought or may not even be able to use it at all. I am in fact a victim of such a scam by chain stores. I paid $60 for one and then found out, that the seat was in fact unuseable by state law because it was made six years ago, even though I had just purchased it brand new, in the box, the week before. That purchase was made at one of the biggest department chain stores in the world. I would even believe that there is one in your town or someplace close because they are everywhere, but of course, I will not tell you their name, but you know who I mean. So check your state laws and buy wisely!!!!
