Baby Steps: What to get when you are expecting
popular books February 27th, 2008
My wife and I had our first baby about two months ago. The
experience was great however the dates leading up to it were a little
overwhelming. We did the standard gift registry at Baby’s R Us. Their
prices are obviously not the best and their supply of things tends to
be all mainstream. We made it through it all and here are the things we
found most helpful in our first few months of parenthood.
Strollers
We elected to go with the Peg Perego P3.
Although this stroller is a little pricier than some, we liked it
because it light and easy to use. We plan on having several kids, so we
thought we’d kick down the dough for something that is going to last.
It is an Italian stroller and apparently Italians drink small drinks as
the cup holder is a little skinny. I took the liberty of taking an
knife and making a slit in it so that it can accommodate a normal size
scolding hot coffee.
Bugaboo Frog
- A couple of my high-brow and classier friends went with the
bug-a-boo. Everyone who has it loves it. It does not have a cup holder
though and the add-ons are pricey.
Carriers
We bought a Graco Snug Ride baby carrier that fits nicely into the stroller. For the most part it has worked just dandy.
The last couple of weeks our baby has gotten a little stronger and we have relied less on the stroller and more on the Baby Bjorn.
With the baby bjorn, you can walk around the house, go for walks, and
do almost everything (except say swimming) with your baby in front of
you. It’s pretty handy.
Baby Toys
We found that we did not need many baby toys for the first few months. The main ones that we did need was pacifiers and a baby matte. Apart from those, our little one just plays with her feet and is captivated by her surroundings.
