LENOX CHINA JEWELS ANIMAL COLLECTION
1991 - 2001
The Lenox China Jewels Animal Collection is the earliest in the Jewels Collection giftware series. Lenox China is world famous for their hand painted 24-Karat Gold and Platinum. Beginning in 1991 Lenox continued this long-standing porcelain tradition when they introduced this attractive and economical set of animal figurines. The 24-Karat Gold and the colorful Jewels were painstakingly applied by hand.
The Animal Collection and The Nativity Collection are similar in that they used the same boxes, and in some cases (1993 - 1996) the backstamps were identical. The Barcode (UPC) on the Nativity figurines will read C/J (China Jewels) Nat (Nativity) and then the name of the figurine. The Barcode on the Animal collection will read Lenox Jewels, LNX JWLS or C/J and then the name of the figurine. The two differ in that the Animal Collection figurines have a smaller amount of gold and jeweling. They were smaller in size and not attributed to the traditional nativity display. From 1991 through 1996 both collections have the date on the backstamp. In some cases both date and mark will be seen, again the key is the Barcode.
Please see my Backstamps Guide for more information about the Lenox backstamp marks and dates.
