Rawcliffe Star Trek Ships and Figures - Collector List

collectibles toys February 29th, 2008

I have been collecting Rawcliffe Star Trek pewter ships and figurines for a couple of years and have found it difficult to obtain a list of all the items made in this series. So I finally started my own list, and I would like to share it with the rest of the collectors here in the eBay community. Please let me know of any errors or missing items, so we can create a complete listing. From my research, it would appear Rawcliffe first started production of the Star Trek ships using the molds made by FASA for their Star Trek series of games, but evidently had licensing issues with Paramount. Therefore, they stopped the SS series and then with a new licensing agreement with Paramount started the RF series in 1991.

I invite comments on this list. If you have additional information or can fill in some of the question marks, please let me know. I would like to give credit to Jeffrey B. Snyder and his book “A Trekker’s Guide to Collectibles” for giving me a starting point from which to develop this list.

BUYING AUTHENTIC - How to Buy Coach on Ebay!

collectibles toys February 29th, 2008

COACH COUNTERFIET SPOTTING 101
Hi, I am Glammabags and not only am I an eBay Power Seller but I am also a fraud investigator that fights counterfeit sales on eBay and other online auctions sites. I would like to share some of the things that an uneductated buyer can look for when considering a Coach purchase on eBay.The counterfiet Coach bags being sold on eBay don’t even come close to the luxury of an authentic Coach bag! Those selling counterfeit bags on eBay know what they are doing. They are DISHONEST and DECEPTIVE and not only are they violating Federal Laws on the sale of counterfiet goods, but they are also violating eBay policies with a reckless disregard to you and any other buyer on eBay.

Coach is an affordable luxury to most. What I mean by this is that most people can save for a couple of months and buy an authentic bag. Sometimes you get lucky and find one on eBay. This guide is to assist you with the online auction experience of buying authentic.

Just so you know, COUNTERFEIT HANDBAGS ARE EASILY IDENTIFIABLE! Spare yourself the embarrassment and buy authentic! I don’t know about you, but the thought of carrying a counterfeit and showing others I have a blatent disregard for human life and laws is just not appealing to me. After all it is proven that counterfeits support terrorism and child labor.

First ~Be aware of a sellers return policy. If a seller offers an unconditional money back guarantee of authenticity then more then likely the bag is real! If they seller does not offer this then find one who does, don’t waste your time or money. As a trusted Power Seller I chose not to disclose the serial numbers on the COACH bags I sell. This is to protect the integrity of the bag so no one can steal the number and register it.

Second ~If you purchase a bag from an Ebay seller, before leaving that seller feedback, take your bag to a COACH store and they will be more then happy to authenticate the bag for you!

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN PURCHASING ONLINE:

  1. Mini bags (commonly known as demi) and clutches don’t have serial numbers. If you see one that does it is counterfeit.
  2. Stitching on an AUTHENTIC COACH is always straight and uniform and there will never be any overlapping stitches or loose ends!
  3. The leather on an authentic Coach in thick and luxurious.
  4. Coach hardware is thick and chunky and made of real nickel or brass, not cheap chrome.
  5. Check the picture in the auciton. Is it the actual picture of the bag or what is referred to as a “stock photo” (most likely from COACH website). An honest seller will have many photos of the actual bag.
  6. Bags that say made in Korea or the USA are counterfeit.
  7. Look at the dustbag. A lot of the counterfeit bags don’t even have the correct dust bags. I have seen white and Tan bags. Coach has dark brown with red stitching. Higher end counterfeits will have the brown too.
  8. This fall 2006 Coach line, Coach no longer included registration cards with their handbags. If you find a Fall 2006 or newer bag that claims they have a registration card, then the bag is more then likely fake. Coach offers instant registration online at their website.
  9. Check the placement of the C on the bags. The C logo on each and every Coach bag will be uniform, straight, and touching in an alternating pattern.
  10. Coach does not wrap their bag handles or hardware in plastic - dead giveaway the bag is fake!
  11. Coach hangtags will match the leather that is on the bag or they will be nickel if there is no leather.
  12. Check serial number and style numbers of the bag. Some counterfieters don’t even have the correct style number on the bags! The style number is the set of number that proceeds the dash on the creed tag. The numbers and letters that preceed the dash is the serial number. NOTE: bags that have the following serial numbers are counterfeit: NT-4903, 4908, 4115 and TN9085, 9096, 7H, M4N and H4B. There is also a high probability that bags with the numbers 308-9875 are also counterfeit.
  13. Before leaving feedback for a seller take your bag to COACH and have them authenticate it for you! They will do this free of charge!

THIRD ~
If you are not familiar with COACH handbags I would suggest you take the time to go to either a COACH store or a high end department store that deals in Coach, i.e. Neiman Marcus, Nordstroms, Macy’s, etc. and familiarize yourself with the look and feel of an authentic Coach handbag before buying online.

~ COACH FACTS ~
Outlet stores are NOT sub quality or factory seconds. Coach products offered at the outlet stores are end of stock, limited releases, or end of season items that have to be cleared out of stock to make room for new stock.

  • COACH DOES NOT SELL SUB QUALITY OR FACTORY SECONDS!
  • COACH HAS ONE OF THE STRICKTEST QUALITY CONTROL STANDARDS IN THE INDUSTRY. ANY AND ALL DAMAGED PRODUCTS ARE DESTROYED, THEY ARE NOT SOLD AS FACTORY SECONDS OR SOLD TO FACTORY OUTLETS OF ANY KIND!
  • COACH STORES WILL AUTHENTICATE YOUR BAG FREE OF CHARGE!
  • COACH ONLY USES THE HIGHEST QUALITY LEATHERS, JACQUARD, SATINS AND FABRICS AVAILABLE!
  • COACH WILL REPAIR THE HANDBAGS. IF NOT REPAIRABLE THEY WILL OFFER YOU A CERTIFICATE TO USE ON A FUTURE PURCHASE AT A COACH STORE!

I hope this guide has been helpful to you. I hope you will help me and others like me to report counterfeit sellers to Ebay immediately and help to make Ebay an honest trusting place to do business!

The folded USA flag- the meaning of each fold

collectibles toys February 29th, 2008

The first fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The second fold is a symbol of our belief in the eternal life.

The third fold is made in honor of the veterans departing our rank who gave of their life or a portion of their life for the defense of our country. That peace maybe attained throughout the world.

The fourth fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens trusting in God, it is in Him we turn in times of peace as well as in times of war for His divine guidance.

The fifth fold is a tribute to our great country, for in words of Stephan Decatur, “Our country, in dealing with other countries, may she always be right, but it is still our country, right or wrong.”

The sixth fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that we pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.

The seventh fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces for they protect our country against all her enemies, whether the enemies are within or outside the boundaries of our republic.

The eighth fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the shadow of death, that we might see the light of day.

The ninth fold is a tribute to womanhood, for it has been through her faith, love, loyalty and devotion that strong character of men and women helped mold this country. This fold honors mothers and the USA flag is flown on Mothers Day.

The tenth fold is a tribute to father, for he too has given his sons and daughters for the defense of our country since it was first born.

The eleventh fold represents teh God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.

The twelfth fold in the eyes of a Christian citizen, represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies God the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.

NW Fakes for Ransom

collectibles toys February 29th, 2008

There are certain patterns of selling that may reveal whether a “Northwest Coast Indian Tribal Mask” is genuine or an Indonesian fake. A beginning collector should pause before bidding and think about these facts: is it likely that a single seller would have a large and apparently endless supply of vintage, unsigned native masks? A seller may indeed have a large supply of new, signed Northwest Coast masks; these are being carved today and signed by skilled NW Native carvers; but older masks do not usually come by the dozen.

Note that newer masks should always be signed; unsigned newer masks are always fakes. Since signing has been common since the 1940’s, a native item would have to be 60-70 years old, in order for one not to be astonished at the lack of signature. Yet a great many masks, unsigned, and obviously newer than that, are regularly available. If a seller has many such masks, and they are all stylistically similar, they are likely to be fakes. Real masks of that age, and all carved by the same artist, would not likely still be together in a single collection.

It is quite easy for a seller to claim that he bought a mask in the 1960’s; he may say that it is genuine native carved; and this may well be true, if it were only one or two masks. But it stretches credibility to think that a seller would have bought a hundred such masks; and that they would all look oddly like the Indonesian import masks, as though the native carvers of the 1960’s had been heavily influenced by Balinese carving styles: bulging eyes, gritted teeth; incorrect shapes for the eyes, brows, lips, noses, and forms; ignorance of Native proportion and grace. Check the seller’s past history; some sellers have a history of selling a few such masks every week, for years. Take note of the bidders: is the mask attracting only relatively inexperienced bidders? What does this mean?

Often, these sell for only $10-$30; maybe $70; but a genuine mask, 50 years old or so, ought to be selling for $1,000 or more. Why such a low price? Because experienced collectors recognize the masks instantly as fakes, and do not bid. A beginner who cannot yet tell the difference should check out eBay’s Native Americana/Reproductions category, or google for Indonesian import reproductions masks; and note the astonishing variety and pseudo-NW style of the fakes. Do not bid until you can tell real from fake at a glance.

If one has bought such a mask, note the type of wood, or show it to someone who can recognize cedar; with rare exceptions, a mask that is not cedar is not genuine NW Native art. The masks carved of streaky-grained tropical woods are not real. Note also that it is not legal to resell such masks as genuine. Even if bought as real, the Indian Arts and Crafts Act prohibits even unknowing mis-representation. Instead, such items should be returned to the seller for a refund; the IACA requires that a seller refund the price of a fake, even if he claims to be unaware it is not genuine. Failure to make such a refund is a Federal crime.

One should take note of these patterns, and bid accordingly. If it seems too good to be true……

Poly resin cameos for variety

collectibles toys February 29th, 2008

Bonded poly-resin is the most versitile of the materials for creating cameos’.

Usually mis-labeled ‘resin’ the functional diffrence is in it’s ability to hold shape, color and form ; while adding strength.

The ‘poly’ may be sand - glass under heat- marble , plastics , stone ,wood. tree sap ; also kown as amber { with age }the resin is the grinding into sand type particles.

The bondind is joining together to form the shape.

The primary reason I like this medium is a combination of it’s strength and lasting properties .

Less likely to break it is more likely to hold it’s color , shape and texture throughout the years .

A now commonly used came material ; it is often confused with resin. Rarely do dealers bother to mark , partly from indiference on their part ; mostly on the need to explain .

When a cameo is in high relief ; it is usually bonded poly resin. 3-D cameos’ are plastic, or bonded poly resin. In everyday terms resin is usually placed as the material.
